Frederick D. Szary, 66, of Dunkirk died Friday evening (March 8, 2013) at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa. after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 14, 1946 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Milo and Florence (Kozlowski) Szary.
A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Mr. Szary was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1964.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1966-1968 in Germany.
Mr. Szary was retired from AL Tech Specialty Steel Corporation and was owner-operator of Corvettes East in Dunkirk.
Mr. Szary enjoyed restoring Corvettes and working on model cars and airplanes. He also attended many Corvette car shows and drag car races.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn (Sciarrino) Szary, whom he married Sept. 12, 1970; two sons: Ryan Szary of Dunkirk and Justin Szary of Olean; one brother: William (Sharon) Szary of Fla; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock in Holy Trinity Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Dia-betes Association.
