According to New York State Police at Fredonia, alcohol was involved in a two-car accident on Route 5 in the town of Portland Wednesday. Around 4:50 p.m., Samira Farhat, 47, of Pomfret allegedly did not stop at the stop sign on Wilson Road before attempting to make a left turn east onto Route 5. Farhat struck the rear of another vehicle. He allegedly failed sobriety tests on the scene and was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital for precautionary reasons. A blood test was taken at the hospital. No injuries were reported. Farhat was charged with driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. He was issued tickets to appear in the Town of Portland Court at a later date.
