Anyone interested in learning more about sleep apnea or sleep-related issues is invited to a new support group meeting at Brooks Memorial Hospital in March. The group, A.W.A.K.E. of Western New York, will meet on Wednesday, March 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the first floor Medical Library, 529 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Guest speaker is Ed Snusz, registered respiratory therapist, registered polysomnographer and technical director at Brooks Memorial Hospital. His topic will be "Tips for Successful Use of CPAP," referring to positive airway pressure for treatment of sleep-related breathing disorders.
To register for the March 27 meeting, call 363-3994. The new group is a chapter of the American Sleep Apnea Association. A.W.A.K.E. stands for Alert, Well, And Keeping Energetic, an acronym for the group whose mission it is to give people with sleep apnea the tools to manage their own health care successfully.
