BROCTON - "It's a once in a lifetime dinner, and you could say that you were part of history by being there."
Those were the comments of Brocton Mayor Dave Hazleton at Wednesday's Village of Brocton Board meeting regarding the Portland Bicentennial Committee's official Kickoff Dinner, scheduled for April 13 at the Brocton Legion.
The dinner will serve as the official start of the Town of Portland's 200th birthday extravaganza. A limited number of tickets have been made available for the historic event, which will feature a brief showcase of history of its own. Entrance into the dinner is only available by pre-purchased tickets, reminds Committee Chairman Dave Travis.
The cost is $20 per ticket and tickets are available at the Portland Town Hall, the Ahira Hall Memorial Library in Brocton or the Village of Brocton Clerk's Office. You may also contact Travis directly for a set of tickets by calling 792-9791.
Featured will be a buffet style dinner, hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and a door prize giveaway. The social hour will begin at 5 p.m. and the dinner will begin at 6 p.m.
Local town, county and village elected officials have been invited to attend and launch the Town's 200th birthday celebration. Diners will not only enjoy a generous meal, but a re-enactment of the first official town meeting by elected officials.
