GOWANDA - Ruby M. Kempf, 95, of Hamburg, formerly of Gowanda passed away Saturday (March 30, 2013) surrounded by family in the
Elderwood Health Care at Lakewood where she had been convalescing since last Monday. Prior to her stay at Elderwood, she had
resided at Rosewood in Hamburg for the past few years. Born July 30, 1917 in Gowanda, she was the daughter of Anton and Frances (Zumer) Majcen. Ruby married Norman A. Kempf in the St. Joseph's RC Church in Gowanda on Aug. 22, 1945. Norman passed away Dec. 4, 1967. A long standing member of St. Joseph's, Ruby was a Eucharistic Minister. She also was involved with hospital ministry at the former Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Gowanda. A recipient of the Clara Barton Honor Award with the American Red Cross, Ruby

was recognized for 25 years of meritorious volunteer leadership. Ruby was one of the first to be on the committee with Academy Place
in Gowanda and continued for 11 years before the project came to fruition. She also was a member of the Monday Evening Literary
Club. Survivors include two daughters: Susan Kempf of Clarence, N.Y. and Mrs Thomas (Martha) Scholl of Hamburg; grandchildren Lisa and Kristin Nice and Heidi, Renee', Aimee' and Erich Tschopp; and great grandchildren Chloe and Aiden. Ruby is also survived by cousins Marinka Zumer Mastek and Klemen Zumer. Besides her parents and husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her grandson Brian T. Scholl
who passed away Oct. 23, 1999. Friends may call at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME, 44 Center St., Gowanda (716)-532-4200 from 3 to 7p.m. on Tuesday. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2013; a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St Joseph's RC Church 90 East Main St. at 9a.m. (gather at church). Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery Gowanda. Fr. Joseph Porpiglia and Fr. Walter Szcesny will co-celebrate.
