MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Cassadaga Valley Lady Cougars suffered their second straight defeat, as they lost to R.C. Byrd High School of West Virgina, 4-1, Tuesday at the Grand Strand Softball Classic.
Courtney Vahl took the tough loss after relieving Mya Sischo in the fourth inning with the score knotted at 0-0. Sischo pitched the first three innings of scoreless ball, and allowed two hits and struck out three batters.
Vahl came on in the fourth and sent the Byrd team down in order. In the fifth, however, the Lady Eagles came through with four hits and three runs which proved to be the game winners.
Alyssa Hahn completed the Lady Cougars' pitching rotation, as she gave up one hit and one unearned run in the last two innings of work.
For the second day in a row, the Lady Cougars were not able to generate much offense. Cassadaga Valley's only run came in the bottom half of the sixth inning when Jessie Burch reached on a single, stole second and was driven home on a single by Kristi Zink. The Lady Cougars' only other hit was by Shawna Miller.
Cassadaga Valley will play at noon today against Paul VI of Virgina.
