GOWANDA - The Gowanda School Board heard discussion of capital projects at a recent board meeting by Building and Grounds Superintendent Steve Rozler.
The capital project for the district has been done in phases starting in 2010. Work along the creek, high school locker rooms and pool repairs were completed as part of phase one. The second phase started in May 2011 and included the science wing at the high school. In July 2011, work at the elementary school started on remodeling, which is almost complete, Rozler said. For the work to be completed on the elementary school, there is one part that is waiting for the playground door. The high school auditorium was also remodeled and the district installed a new generator.
"Phase two will be 100 percent complete this summer," Rozler said.
To complete phase two, contractors are working on a punch list for the new science wing which includes lighting, among other small projects. Rozler said the project is currently under budget. Rozler also mentioned an energy savings project. For the project, the district would have to borrow money but would get the money back in return over an extended amount of time in energy savings. The board did not take action on the matter at this time.
