Martha Robertson, the chairwoman of the Tompkins County Legislature, was in Dunkirk this morning to announce her candidacy for New York's 23rd Congressional District.
The district, which spans across 11 counties from the Finger Lakes to the Southern Tier to Chautauqua County, is currently represented by Rep. Tom Reed.
Robertson, a long-time resident and a strong community leader, said she has a proven track record of fighting for the needs of her constituents. Although the seat is not up this fall, Robertson said she is starting her campaign now, because of the size of the district.
Among those Joining Robertson in her announcement Thursday was city Democratic Chairman Frank Gawronski, Fredonia Mayor Steve Keefe and County Democratic Chairman Norman P. Green.
