Dunkirk Fire Dept. monthly report
The Dunkirk Fire Department reports going on 153 runs in March. Of that number, 125 were EMS calls with 40 of those resulting in transports to Brooks Memorial Hospital.
There were 17 still alarms, nine box alarms and two mutual aid calls answered by the department, according to figures from Fire Chief Keith Ahlstrom.
Westfield to flush hydrants starting Monday
The Village of Westfield Water Department will flush hydrants within the water district during the weeks of April 15 through May 10, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. They will start at the highest point (south) and move to the lowest point (north).
The water will be slightly discolored and caution should be taken in regard to washing clothes. Despite the color of the water, at no time will be unsafe to drink.
The Water Department apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause residents.

John T. Murray VFW?Ladies Auxiliary meets Monday
The next meeting of the John T. Murray VFW Ladies Auxiliary will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the post.
Nominations and election of officers will take place.
All sisters are encouraged to attend this meeting.
Portland special meeting Tuesday
The Town of Portland will hold a special meeting to award road material bids on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Town Hall.
College expectations is PTO topic Monday
Chris Dearth, the director of admissions at Fredonia State University, will present at the April Parent Teacher Organization meeting at Dunkirk High School.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will be in the Dunkirk High School library on Monday at 6 p.m.
Dearth will address expectations and admission requirements at Fredonia State, as well as requirements for admission to college in general. He will also answer questions and concerns from college-bound parents. Laurie Whitermore of the DHS guidance office will also be on hand to address specific questions and concerns about Dunkirk High School students.
This meeting is a must if your student has college aspirations.
