Dunkirk School Board executive session set for Friday morning
The Dunkirk Board of Education will hold a meeting for an executive session for a personnel matter on Friday at 8 a.m. in the small conference room in the administration building. No action will be taken after the executive session.
Gas prices fall
Average retail gasoline prices in Rochester have fallen 4.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.76/g Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 319 gas outlets in Rochester. This compares with the national average that has fallen 5.0 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.52/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
Including the change in gas prices in Rochester during the past week, prices Sunday were 31.0 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 13.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased 13.8 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 37.0 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.
Fred Croscut to appear on Senior Report Saturday morning
Senior Report with Reed Powers will have Fred Croscut as the guest on Saturday's television program. Croscut is a Chautauqua County legislator. The live, call-in program airs from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. for some communities. Reed Powers, host of Senior Report, has been producing the television program since 1995. The series highlights senior citizen club news for 15 minutes with the remainder of the hour-long program devoted to the featured guest. The guest is subject to change.
Senior Report is shown live Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems.
Gourmet Goulash dinner on Saturday
Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church will host a Gourmet Goulash dinner, Saturday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Included will be a tossed salad, roll, dessert and beverage for a $7 donation.
Proceeds from the dinner will go toward the church's two-year commitment to help support Sinclairville resident Aly Houser as she embarks on a mission as a field ministry associate in Uganda.
The church is located at the corner of Route 430 and Meadows Road in Dewittville.
Chicken barbecue to be held at Gowanda Fire Hall Sunday
Rescue Company 3 and Ladies Auxiliary 6 of the Gowanda Fire Department will be sponsoring a chicken barbecue Sunday starting at 11:30 a.m. The dinners are $8.50 for a full dinner which includes half a chicken, potato salad, baked beans, roll with butter, dessert and beverages.
Dinners are eat in or take out. A dinner with chicken only can be purchased for $5.50 as well. The dinners will be served until sold out. The fire hall is located at 230 Aldrich St., Gowanda.
Silver Creek Food Pantry seeking
items for match
The Silver Creek Food Pantry is participating in the Alan Shawn Feinstein 16th Annual One Million Give-Away to fight hunger. Any donations the pantry receives until April 30 can be matched with this give-away. Donations of food, checks or money orders are accepted. To donate, contact Colleen at 934-4570 or send any monetary donations to P.O. Box 173, Silver Creek 14136. Food can be dropped at the pantry, 260 Central Ave., Silver Creek.
This is the Silver Creek pantry's first time participating.
Polish Feast Saturday
St. John's United Church will hold a Polish Feast Sat-urday from 4 to 6 p.m. The menu includes Polish sau-sage, pierogi, golabki, Harvard beets and rye bread. Cost is $10. To reserve tickets, call 366-0710.
Spring bazaar and Craft Show Saturday
A Spring Bazaar and Craft Show will be held at the Versailles Community Hall Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be 40 vendors on site, and refreshments will be available.
Work on Pedestrian Trail and Bikepath begins Thursday
The City of Dunkirk Public Works Department advises the public that construction on Phase II of the Pedestrian Trail and Bikepath on Point Drive North and Lighthouse Point Drive is scheduled to begin Thursday. Some minor vehicular delays may occur during the construction.
Silver Creek hosts free advice seminar
The Silver Creek Community Education program is offering a free seminar to those in our community who have or will be losing their job due to plant closings or cutbacks. The presentation is scheduled today from 6-7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m. in the high school cafeteria. The discussion and slide show will include survival skills for dealing with change, how to best reduce cash flow needs, how to evaluate financial decisions during career change, health benefit options, and much more. Forestville Food Pantry donations sought
The Forestville Food Pantry at 3 Park St. has joined Alan Shaw Feinstein in fighting hunger. For the past 15 years, Feinstein has been giving away $1 million per year to anti-hunger agencies throughout the country. For whatever is donated to the Forestville Food Pantry on or before April 30, Feinstein will match it with a monetary donation.
The food pantry will gratefully accept checks, cash and canned goods.
Donations can be brought to the food pantry on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
People wishing to donate can also call for pick-up at 965-2655 or 965-2514.
Silver Creek Clerk's Office closed Monday
The Silver Creek Clerk's Office will be closed Monday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for training.
