Fredonia’s Zach?Buckley throws the ball to first base for a forceout during Monday’s CCAA?Division 1 high school baseball game agains Allegany-Limestone.
"To say we hit the ball well was an understatement," Fredonia coach Vince Gullo said. "Offensively, we scored a run in all but one inning."
The Hillbillies couldn't rest on a 13-0 lead after Allegany-Limestone scored six runs in the top of the third. Starting pitcher Trent Thompson was removed from the game and replaced by Ley for the fourth. Ley shut down the Gators' offense as he allowed one run and struck out five batters in a three-inning outing.
"I was disappointed in our third inning defensively, giving up six runs," Gullo said. "We had all sorts of substitutions. With Weston going into the game and throwing strikes, he really settled us down. He took command of the game and allowed us to regroup."
Ley was also one of four Fredonia players to collect a quartet of hits. Ley hit a double and two triples, scored three runs and knocked home three RBI. Jude Gardner had a two-run triple, a double, two singles and four RBI. Hart scored five runs, knocked two doubles and added three RBI. Smith had three hits, two triples, three runs and a trio of runs batted in while Cam Voss had three hits and two RBI. Jack Buckley (triple) and Saden (double) had two hits each.
"We didn't quit," Gullo said. "We dug deep, we played hard-nosed baseball and went right after it."
Fredonia could move to 10-0 with a win over rival Dunkirk Wednesday.
"It's almost too early for a big game," Gullo said. "The Dunkirk game, everyone gets excited about. To us, it's just another big game. We want to keep improving and see where it takes us."

Joe Kruszka and Justin Grimm added the other lone hits in defeat.
