BROCTON - Jess Merle did it all for Brocton on Tuesday in leading the Lady Bulldogs (5-2, 5-3) to an 11-2 victory over Sherman (0-4, 0-6) in CCAA Division 4 high school softball.
In the circle, Merle scattered two hits, struck out nine and walked three. At the plate, she was 3 for 3 with a grand-slam homer to highlight a six-run second inning.
Jenna Jusko added three hits and Paige Odebralski had three hits with a double for the winners.
The win keeps Brocton in second place behind North Collins and Ripley.
Brocton plays at Westfield today.
Lake Shore earns split
ANGOLA - The Lake Shore Lady Eagles (1-6, 3-6) lost a league game Monday, but rebounded with a non-league win Tuesday in ECIC Division 3 high school softball action.
Monday, Lake Shore fell to Sweet Home, 5-4, in eight innings.
Darian Evans was 1 for 3 with a run scored and Hayley Hammer finished with two hits and as many stolen bases.
Tuesday, Lake Shore edged Immaculata, 5-4.
Hammer and Machala Andrews led the offense with three hits each. Jessica Ackley, Emma Franco and Jordan Scholl each had two hits for the winners.
Ackley was the winning pitcher with 12 strikeouts.
The Lady Eagles host Starpoint today and Williamsville South on Thursday.
