NORTH COLLINS - Jared Keppel tossed a complete-game four-hitter Friday afternoon as North Collins topped Ripley (7-4, 7-3), 4-1, during CCAA Division 4 baseball action.
"We have never been that ineffective at the plate," Ripley coach Ken Rowe said. "We just gave it away and when we finally did start hitting in the fifth, (the umpires) called (the game)."
Rain forced the game to be called in the fifth inning, but not before Keppel fanned nine and walked two.
"We had a few errors early," Rowe said. "But out bats have just never been this bad. I can't make an excuse. We just did not play well (Friday)."
North Collins went up 3-0 after the bottom of the second when it scored three runs, two of which came on a single by Chris Pulinski.
Jaden Keough added a pair of hits for North Collins in the win while Ripley's lone run came in the fifth on a single by Trevor Enterline, who suffered the loss on the mound after allowing four runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked two over five innings of work.
"It was an off day for us," Rowe concluded. "We definitely did not show up to play today."
