Dunkirk Middle School's steel drum band, Marauder Steel, recently returned from a whirlwind concert tour of New York City. Performances were held at Lincoln Center and on the aircraft carrier Intrepid.
The 15 band members and chaperones toured Manhattan, visited Radio City Music Hall, Empire State Building, Central Park, 911 Memorial and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Marauder Steel attended a Broadway musical - "The Newsies" - and traveled by boat to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The band ended their trip in China Town and Little Italy.
Marauder Steel and their director, Cynthia Flaherty, would like to thank everyone who donated their time, money and energy to help this venture become a reality. It was a trip of a lifetime these young performers will never forget. Flaherty noted that band members were extremely well behaved on this trip and represented Dunkirk as young ambassadors. The city of Dunkirk and the Dunkirk City School District can be very proud.
