JAMESTOWN - A fire that destroyed a medical complex Monday in the city is being ruled as arson.
Capt. Robert Samuelson of the Jamestown Police Department said investigators believe at least one suspect intentionally set the blaze at 23 Ivy St. The medical complex housed Krempa Medical Associates, Laser Center of Chautauqua and a podiatric surgeon office.
Samuelson said the suspect, or suspects, also may have been burned from the fire and sought or received medical attention.
"Based on what we have discovered and seen in the past, we believed someone may have burns on their hands or their clothing as a result of setting this fire," Samuelson said, noting police have contacted all major hospitals in the region.
"It's really important for anyone to call us if they have any information," he said.
Jamestown police and the Chautauqua County Forensic Investigation Team sifted through debris Monday and determined the fire was suspicious in nature. State investigators, including a K-9 unit, also was summoned.
Samuelson would not release a motive at this time.
Anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to call Jamestown police at 483-7531 or the department's anonymous tip line at 483-8477.
