The Resource Center's Diagnostic and Treatment Center has hired Jamestown native Dr. Brooks Landy as its newest physical therapist.
Landy earned his doctorate of physical therapy from D'Youville College after obtaining his bachelor degree in exercise science from the University at Buffalo. His areas of interest include sports medicine and treating people with congenital neurological disorders or those who require therapy as a result of an incident such as traumatic brain injury or stroke.
"Also, the manual, hands-on approach that is part of the rehabilitation process intrigues me, with all of the different methods and techniques I am able to learn and use with my own hands to restore function to individuals in need," Landy said.
As for why he chose to join The Resource Center, Landy stated, "Most of my experience thus far had been in outpatient facilities, with little exposure to neuro patients, and a lot of athletes. I think I would enjoy and be comfortable practicing in any setting, but I wanted to expand my knowledge base in new areas and take on a position that would be challenging and offer the best learning experience.
"I knew I wanted to work for a proactive company, and TRC is positioned well to expand its horizons as a health-based organization, and I hope to be instrumental in the success of the PT department moving forward through my treatment, positive outlook and drive to uphold the mission and values that everyone should experience the best quality of life, which is the foundation that The Resource Center is built upon," he said.
Landy is based out of TRC's location at 75 Jones & Gifford Ave., where he treats members of the general public as well as people with disabilities who participate in day habilitation and work programs at The Resource Center. He also travels to other TRC locations to deliver physical therapy to people with disabilities.
TRC's physical therapy department is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Besides the Jamestown location, The Resource Center offers physical therapy services at 186 Lake Shore Dr. W. in Dunkirk. TRC's physical therapy department's clinicians can treat a variety of conditions, including sports injuries, balance deficits, neurological conditions brought on by stroke or developmental delay, temporomandibular jaw/joint pain, and certain wounds. TRC is able to bill most insurances, including Medi-caid and Medicare.
