CASSADAGA - On Labor Day weekend, Cassadaga will hold a parade on Maple Avenue on Aug. 31 at 4 p.m. The summer is not here yet, and plans for the Labor Day weekend parade are being set. It will be a time for everyone to get together and have a good time to put a final closure on summer.
A committee met recently to make plans for the parade, which will line up at Frisbee Road, and continue east on Maple Avenue, concluding at the Cassadaga Firehall on Mill Street. Parade participants are welcome. Cassadaga Mayor LeeAnn Lazarony will direct participants in the line up. Mayor Lazarony has a system of line up which has worked for years, she said. Some organizations have already made their reservation for being in the parade, and more are welcome. Even food vendors are welcome to set up following the parade, which will last about one hour. Following the parade, the Cassadaga Lakes Association will hold their annual Ducky Derby contest at the Cassadaga outlet.
Trustee Valerie Culverwell, who is in charge of the Cassadaga beach program during the summer, said that the young people will work on a float and decorate their bicycles for the parade. Trustee Mike Lehnen said that the Cassadaga Fire Department will be asked to participate, as well as neighboring fire departments. The fire departments will line up on Commercial Street around 3 p.m. that day.
Cassadaga Village Historian John Sipos said that letters and messages will be sent to area businesses and organizations inviting them to participate. Sipos said that he already has a list of those who have committed themselves to be in the parade. All are welcome. The next planning session is on Thursday, May 30 at the village hall at 7 p.m.
To make a reservation to be a participant in the parade or inquiry more about the parade, write to Cassadaga Parade Committee, P.O. Box 286, Cassadaga, NY 14718. Everyone is invited to be a part of this wonderful end of the summer village activity.
