Master Sgt. Brian Schneider of Forestville is a guest speaker for the Dun-kirk Joint Veterans Council Memorial Day Services today in Memorial Park.
Schneider lived in Forestville and graduated from Forestville Central High in 1986. He enlisted in May 1986 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Paris Island, S.C., in December 1986.
Stationed across the United States at numerous bases from North Carolina to California, he was trained on ground radar electronics and work on Hawk air defense radars to Air traffic equipment.

He went to Salt Lake City Utah in September 2001 in support of Joint Task Force Olympics and did two tours of duty in Kyrgyzstan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and one tour of duty in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
While assigned as NCOIC Air Traffic Control Maintenance Division, H&HS, MCAS Cherry Point, N.C., he was promoted to Master Sergeant of Marines on Jan. 1, 2006.
He retired on Dec. 31, 2007 after 21 years of service.
MSgt. Schneider's personal decorations include Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star (two awards); Navy/Marine Crops Achievement Medal with gold star (two awards); Good Conduct Medal with six bronze stars (seven awards); Iraq service medal, Global war of terrorism expeditionary medal, Global war on terrorism service medal, Military outstanding volunteer service medal, sea service deployment medal with bronze star (two awards).
He is member of Lakeshore Marines, American Legion Post 953 Forestville, Sheridan VFW, Silver Creek AMVETS, and the honor guard of the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council. He also has started a program that gets donations from local veterans clubs in cooperation with Girl Scout troops to send cookies to troops deployed overseas
He is an interior firefighter with the Forestville Fire Department and is currently employed as an electrician at Special Metals in Dunkirk.
He married the former Brenda White in August 1989. He has a daughter Emily and a son Eric.
