The new water tank being constructed on Willowbrook Avenue as part of a consent order the city of Dunkirk is under is four times larger than the one it is replacing. The new tank (pictured at right) will be capable of holding 2 million gallons of water, four times the capacity of the existing tank (pictured on left). Caldwell Tank Co. started work on the $2,653,000 project in April 2012. The new tank is scheduled to be "jacked" into place today atop the concrete tower seen behind the new tank. Crews began work on the process Tuesday with the actual raising of the new tank set to begin at 9 a.m. today. The tank is scheduled to be set in place at 2 p.m. with other parts of the project scheduled through Friday.
