Joyce Johnson has retired after serving 25 years as the librarian at the Cassadaga Branch Library. Mrs. Johnson says she's planning to be the new village library's most faithful patron. The new facility is nearing completion and plans call for it to be open by mid-June. A retirement party honoring Mrs. Johnson will be held on June 8 at the Stockton Hotel. The event will be co-hosted by the Mary E. Seymour Library Board of Trustees and the Cassadaga Branch Library Association.

Arson is listed as the cause of a recent fire which began in a first-floor restroom and spread to the attic of the vacant 150-year-old Leolyn Hotel just outside the main gate of the Lily Dale Assembly. The fire damaged a portion of the 33-room Leolyn Hotel, which is named for the daughter of Mrs. Abby Louise Pettingill who bought the building in 1895, known then as the Alden House, and 23 adjacent acres of woodland.
