Two men who have dedicated their lives to fire service in the county were recently celebrated in Mayville.
Neil McNeight of Fredonia and Denny Barmore of Gerry, who have a combined service of 110 years, have been honored with plaques and bay doors that bear their names. One of McNeight's major achievements was with the county emergency 911 system, which he helped enhance in the rural areas of the county.
Barmore's major contribution was the establishment of the county Water Emergency Team with the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office, as well as the stress debriefing team.
"We're blessed to have people like this in the fire service," said Julius Leone, county fire coordinator. "They continue to put all of their effort into making the county safer. And that's basically what it's all about."
Both men also served in our military, meaning they served our region - and country - with honor and pride.
