The Western New York Sting 10 and Under girls travel softball team won the Five Star Bank ASA Invitational Softball Tournament and national qualifier in Perry, N.Y. this weekend after defeating the New Era Diamond Girls 4-1. The Sting will play in a national tournament this summer.
The WNY Sting defeated Miss Scotties from Ballston Spa, N.Y., 13-0, in the quarterfinals. Megan Kyte (Fredonia) pitched a one-hitter on the mound with six strikeouts. Kyte led the Sting offensively with a home run among her two hits while Lexi Odrobina added a pair of knocks. Katelyn Scioli, Emma Wlostowski and Abbie Stellrecht tallied one hit each. Stellrecht made six putouts from behind the plate, including two throw downs to second. Torrie Jenkins played well at first base while Wlostowski at second base, Kazlin Beers (Fredonia) at shortstop and Kyte on the mound recorded two putouts each.
In the semifinal game, WNY Sting defeated the Pittsburgh Spirit, 6-2. Kyte threw a four-hitter with seven strikeouts on the mound. Obrobina led the way offensively with two hits while Scioli, Stephanie Herrnreiter and Leah Heiler had one hit and run scored each. Wlostowski rounded out the scoring. Torrie Jenkins had a game-leading 12 putouts while Stellrecht had seven. Kyte and Obrobina added a putout each.

In the championship game, the Sting defeated the New Era Diamond Girls, 4-1. Kyte again took the mound for a stellar three-hit, 10-strikeout performance. Jenkins, Scioli, Wlostowski and Beers added hits while runs were scored by Beers, Kyte, Jenkins and Wlostowski. Jenkins, Wlostowski, Scioli, Rachael Fuerst and Stellrecht stood out defensively.
