WESTFIELD - Big Daddy's (Dunkirk) won their first ever championship at the 14th Annual Woody Keyser Open Modified Tournament held in Westfield on June 1-2.
Big Daddy's went 4-0 behind consistent hitting, solid fielding and the pitching of Bobby Honaker.
The young bats of the Dunkirk Fastpitch league broke out early by defeating Woody's (Westfield), 17-1. Next, they defeated in-town rival Dunkirk Fastpitch, 13-10. Then, defeated the third-place winner, Larry's Cantina (Westfield), 7-3 in the winners bracket final.
Big Daddy’s celebrate their championship win at the 14th Annual Woody Keyser Memorial Softball Tournament.
In the finals, Big Daddy's matched up against AJ's Bayview Inn (Erie, Pa.), who after dropping their first game won four straight to reach the finals. Much like the earlier games, Big Daddy's jumped out to an early lead as they scored eight runs after two innings. The early lead was all Honaker needed as he struck out five on the way to a 9-3 tournament clinching victory.
At the plate throughout the weekend, Vinny Bomasuto (home run, seven RBIs), Adam Kubasik (five RBIs, five runs), Bob Calph Jr. (seven runs, four walks), Nick Ahlstrom (home run, five RBIs and four runs), Mike Tarnowski (five RBIs, five runs), Bryan Watts (five runs, four RBIs) and others helped them clinch their first championship trophy.
