Here are some of the best - and worst - of the week:
GREAT LAKE EXPERIENCE - Today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Great Lakes Experience will host its first festival in Dunkirk. The festival will focus on the environment and ecology of the Great Lakes and the heritage of our region. There will be free environmental exhibitors, live animals, interactive displays and lots of information about habitat, ecology, science, recreation and fun! Admission is free. Come out and see what our area has to offer.
STATE CHAMPIONS - Congratulations to the Fredonia Hillbillies baseball team. Last weekend, the team captured its first state title since 2006. It was a heck of a ride. The hard work and dedication of the students paid off. When you work together as a team, there's no telling how far you can go.
DUNKIRK POLL SITES - At the last school election, Dunkirk voters were asked if they supported consolidating the poll sites from four to one location. Residents overwhelmingly backed the proposal, voting 208 to 62. Next year, elections will take place at the high school. This move will save the school district money as well as time. It was the right decision.
DOG WASTE - We know Sunset Bay isn't the only place this happens, but earlier this week, Hanover officials discussed the problem of people not cleaning up after walking their dogs. "It's bad down there sometimes, you really have to look where you're walking," said Highway Superintendent Steve D'Angelo. There's no reason for this. If you have a dog and you're taking it out on public property, clean up after it. Let's keep our community clean.
