WESTFIELD - The YWCA Westfield makes the following announcements:
The YWCA Westfield is accepting registration for the summer girls program. Enrollment is open to girls entering grades four through eight and is scheduled to run from Monday, July 8 through Thursday, Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each day begins at the YWCA and ends at Welch Field. Lunch and a snack will be provided, and the girls will be given the opportunity to partner with the Westfield Recreation Department for the Wednesday field trips. A one-time enrollment fee of $50 is required, but scholarship assistance is available. For more information on the program, the scholarships available or to enroll, contact Julie Devlin at 326-4012.
Summer child care
The YWCA is continuing to accept registration for school age summer child care. Supervised child care, lunch and a snack are all available during the summer months. The YWCA partners with the Patterson Library, Welch Field, the Westfield Recreation Department and others to provide a range of activities throughout the summer. Full day and partial day care can be arranged. Contact child services director Brenda Backus at 326-4012 for more details.
The YWCA fitness center cardio upgrades are complete. Three treadmills, a stepper, a spin bike and two step through recumbent bikes have been added to the fitness center and are all ready for use. Members with their annual dues paid up and visits on their account can continue to access the fitness center. New or expired members are invited to visit the main office and sign a new contract and agreement. The new fitness program contracts allow members to choose a three, six or 12 month time frame that each offer unlimited access to the center, with no limit on the number of visits. Payment can be made via MasterCard, Visa or electronic bank transfers. During the next months each fitness center user will be transitioned to a new contract and able to use the fitness center with unlimited visits. More information is available by visiting the main office or calling the YWCA at 326-2011.
On Wednesday, June 26 from 4 to 6 p.m., the YWCA fitness center will be open and available for free use. Members as well as the general public are invited to stop and try out the new cardio equipment, meet Advantage Sport and Fitness Representative Cordell Mitchell, pick up information about insurance coverage, learn more about the new fitness use contracts and register for giveaways and free prizes. No registration is needed, and no YWCA membership is required. The open house is free and open to the general public.
The YWCA is now able to accept Independent Health fitness benefits allowing its members unlimited access to the fitness center. IH members can contact their insurance company or visit the YWCA offices to check coverage and eligibility. Coverage for Silver Sneakers is in progress and will be announced soon.
Arts and Crafts
Space remains for individuals interested in showing at the Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27 annual YWCA Westfield Arts and Crafts Festival. Artists with high quality, hand crafted items for sale are encouraged to contact the YWCA at 326-2011 or visit www.ywcawestfield.org for an application.
"It takes engagement and help from the entire community to make this weekend a success," YWCA Executive Director Katie Smith said. "The Arts and Crafts Festival is the largest fund raiser the Y has. We're asking our friends, neighbors and supporters to consider volunteering. We anticipate over 175 vendors and thousands of visitors to the village. We want each of them to have a great experience."
Help is needed with vendor set up, trash collection, parking and bus monitoring, clean up and more. Anyone interested in working with the YWCA at the Arts and Crafts Festival is encouraged to call the YWCA at 326-2011.
