Twenty years ago - 1993
Three first-grade teachers at Brocton Central School pleaded with the school board to hire another teacher for their grade level. At this time, the total enrollment for the first-grade classes, including the pre-first section, is 81. The teachers pointed out that there were proven benefits for children at this grade level who are part of classes which contain no more than 18 students. The board opted to approve a combination pre-first, first grade class next year with a total of 17 students.
Thirty years ago - 1983
Virginia Privateer Corsi, an executive with the Agency for International Development in Washington, D.C., received the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters at Keuka College's 75th Commencement. Mrs. Corsi, formerly of Cassadaga and former OBSERVER reporter, also was the featured commencement speaker. She is a graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School and Syracuse University.

It was learned last night by Fredonia Mayor Charles St. George that the State University of New York Board of Trustees gave authorization to declare the "Old Main" abandoned.

Jerry Tramuta of Dunkirk and Mike Mangano of Silver Creek are among the eight All-Star basketball high school team seniors to be accepted and plan to enroll at Fredonia State University College for this fall.
