Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary
CASSADAGA - The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary met recently for a regular monthly meeting with President Sue Penhollow presiding. The meeting opened with a prayer from Chaplain Paula Pattison, the Pledge of Allegiance, the Auxiliary preamble, a moment of silence for fallen soldiers and roll call of officers. Secretary Carol Baker read the minutes of the last meeting. The treasurer's report was given by Treasurer Karen Field. Both were accepted.
Correspondence was read by Baker and committee reports were given. Membership was reported by Sally Lawson. The unit is at 92 percent for the year. Letters went out to all unpaid Unit 1280 members requesting their dues be paid. As a note to all members, it has been decided by the department that if 2013 dues are not paid soon, any unpaid Auxiliary members will lose all of their accumulative membership years, starting them back at one year. Stop by and pay dues at the bar or send them to Lawson. If members are not sure, call 595-3145 to find out payment status.
Pattison reported the Unit did one funeral luncheon for a Post member and that she recently sent out two get well cards.
Junior Auxiliary chairperson Charyle Tyler noted that the Jr. Auxiliary camp will be held at Camp Gross from July 26-28. Any Junior member is eligible to attend; parents should check with their Unit Chairperson for details.
Unit members present voted to donate money to Relay for Life and the Cassadaga Library Walk. They also voted to present Unit Historian Ranee Kaus with a new camera.
As a reminder, the Post 1280 is still taking in $20 for the 2013 Post 1280 Flag Program that flies American flags throughout the community through Veteran's Day. A plaque is made to show for whom the flag is flying and who donated it. This is a yearly renewable program. Anyone new who is interested should contact Bruce Kaus at the Post.
Unit 1280 member Gayle Cieplinski has been sending out notices by email. If Post 1280 members would like to receive notice of upcoming events by email, send email addresses to firstname.lastname@example.org or stop by the Post and drop it off. Also, if members haven't been receiving emails and have turned addresses in, they should check with Cieplinski. Email addresses may have been entered wrong and corrections would then need to be made.
Unit 1280 continues to collect the following for overseas families: Labels for Education, Pennies for Hospice, can tabs and canceled postage stamps. Unit 1280 also sells corn brooms for $8; anyone interested may call the Post at 595-3145.
