JAMESTOWN - The sale of several acres of land in Chautauqua County will be a benefit in more ways than one.
During the recent Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency Board of Directors meeting, two resolutions regarding the sale of property were approved. The first was the sale of 1 acre of land in the Stoneman Industrial Park to Thomas Kosinski. The second was the sale of 43.9 acres to the Town of Ripley.
"This is a piece of property in Stoneman Industrial Park that is directly behind Tom's building, and it goes to the tracks," said Rich Dixon, CCIDA chief financial officer, of the sale of land in the industrial park. "There would really be no use for it. There's some wetlands on it, it's right by the railroad tracks, so he was asking us about if he could possibly expand a little bit."
According to Dixon, Kosinski plans to level off the land to use for parking. Although the land will be transferred, Dixon said Kosinski did not purchase the land; it was given to him.
"This does a couple things," Dixon said. "It puts (the land) back on the tax roll, it takes the liability off of our hands. It's a win-win for everybody."
The land sold to the Town of Ripley, however, was purchased for an amount not disclosed during the meeting.
"This is a piece of property ... the IDA had purchased from an individual in the Town of Ripley," said Bill Daly, administrative director for the CCIDA.
The property, Daly said, is on Route 5, located near the sewer treatment plan. The town had grant money to purchase land, and chose this parcel in order to help with a sewer project.
"They're doing a sewer-water project," Daly said. "We will be helping them a great deal on the sewer-water project. So, this frees up money. ... This is a good deal for everybody. It's more strategic, relating to other projects."
Both property transfers were unanimously approved by the board. Its next meeting will be July 16 at 10 a.m.
