IRVING - The New York State Department of Transportation has announced that new traffic patterns are scheduled to begin Wednesday, at the intersection of Route 5&20 and Route 438 on the Cattaraugus Territory of the Seneca Nation of Indians.
These restrictions are necessary to begin construction of the new roundabout. These traffic patterns will be in effect thru mid-September.
Motorists traveling on Route 438 northbound to Route 5&20 westbound and Route 5 eastbound will be directed to follow a posted detour route using Route 20 eastbound and Milestrip Road.
Motorists traveling on the Route 5&20 overlap eastbound to Route 20 will be directed to follow a posted detour using Route 5 and Milestrip Road.
Motorists traveling on Route 20 westbound will directed to follow a posted detour using Milestrip Road and Route 5.
A temporary traffic signal will control traffic at the intersection of Route 5 and Milestrip Road while the detours remain in effect.
Motorists are advised to follow the posted speed limits along the detour routes. Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual's driver's license.
