The Fredonia Major Little?League softball team used a solid pitching performance from Grace Pucciarelli and an offensive outburst from Katie Price to win the Section 1 championship Monday at the Eagan Sports Complex with a 17-3 victory over Oakfield-Alabama.
With the win, Fredonia advances to the New York State Major softball tournament in Riverhead, Long Island, which starts July 9. It is a six-team, double-elimination format.
Pucciarelli scattered just two hits and struck out seven while issuing one walk. She also did not allow an earned run.

At the plate, she helped her own cause with three hits.
Fredonia trailed 3-1 in the third but used a seven-run fifth inning to blow the game open.
The offense was led by Price as she had three hits with a homer and a triple, and she drove in eight runs while crossing home plate three times herself.
Hannah Gullo and Julia Hill each scored three runs while Sydney Bigelow had two hits.
"The girls played great defensively," Fredonia coach Joe Pucciarelli said. "We only had a couple errors in the two games. We hit the ball."
