Carmen C. Montanez, 65, of Dunkirk died Sunday evening (June 30, 2013) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk.
She was born Dec. 17, 1947 in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Horacio and Carmen (Vargas) Montanez.
A Dunkirk resident for most of her life, Carmen was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Lizzette Carmona of Fredonia and Josseline Carmona of Fort Myers, Fla; two sons, Giovany Carmona and Jose Jr.(Meagan) Carmona, both of Dunkirk; two brothers, Horacio (Margarita) Montanez of Erie Pa., and Milton Montanez of Dunkirk; six sisters, Aida ( Juan) Hernandez of Dunkirk, Lurinalda (Jose) Montanez, Noemi (Angel) Montanez, Ada (Luis) Montanez, and Aixa Montanez, all of Puerto Rico and Judith (Hector) Gonzalez of Texas; 14 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Nanette Carmona, Daiana Carmona, and Wilma Carmona; and one brother, Wilfredo Montanez.
Calling hours will be held today from 5-7 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
