Walter R. "Wally" Strek, 72, of East Doughty Street, Dunkirk died unexpectedly Tuesday (July 16, 2013) at Buffalo General Hospital.
He was born September 23, 1941 in Dunkirk to the late Lottie Hochstine.
A lifelong resident of Dunkirk, Mr. Strek served in the U.S. Navy stationed on the USS Lextington naval ship.
He had been employed at Great Lakes Color Printing until its closing, Bush Industries in Jamestown, and Fieldbrook Farms.
Wally greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He was always seen at the beach with his beloved dog, Mac, no matter what the weather was. Wally also loved his pet turtles dearly. Wally loved spending time with his grandchildren, giving them each a unique nick name he called them.
Survivors include his three daughters, Julee Strek, Ann Strek, and Andrea (Christopher) Cooper, all of Dunkirk; six grandchildren, Miranda Strek-Greco, Angelique Harrison, Brandon Prentiss, Ashleigh Cooper, Joshua Cooper, and Kyle Augustin. He is also survived by six brothers and sisters, Joseph Hochstine of Dunkirk, Mary (Mark) Nichols of Dunkirk, Robert Strek of Fredonia, Ceila Quinn of VA, Sylvia Bousquet of MA, Henry Hochstine of Dunkirk, and Nancy Velzy of Dunkirk. Wally had many surviving nieces and nephews as well.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Lapa; and his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Suzanne Przybycien. He was also preceded in death by his best friend and cherished Mac (aka Puppy).
Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass which will be celebrated Friday at 10 o'clock at Blessed Mary Angela RC Church (St. Hyacinth site).
