PORTLAND - A motorcycle accident in the town of Portland sent a Dunkirk man to the hospital Friday evening.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department along with Brocton and Portland Fire departments responded to the accident on Route 5 just after 8 p.m. Juan Barreto-Rivas, 38, was traveling west on Route 5 when a deer entered the roadway and collided with the motorcycle.

Barreto-Rivas was transported by ambulance to Westfield Hospital and then flown to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa. According to police, Barreto-Rivas was wearing a helmet but sustained apparent serious injuries. No charges have been filed.
