On behalf of NRG Energy and the hard-working and dedicated employees at our Dunkirk station, I'd like to thank the people of Dunkirk and Chautauqua County for their tremendous showing at Monday night's Public Service Commission hearing regarding repowering Dunkirk.
In my 23 years in the energy business, I have never experienced an event where so many people bonded together for the same goal. Your presence, heartfelt comments and enthusiastic support are very much appreciated, and you amplified the important message that cannot be misunderstood: the community wants to repower Dunkirk.
I'd also like to especially recognize Sen. Catharine Young, Assemblyman Andrew Goodell, Dunkirk Mayor Anthony J. Dolce, County Executive Greg Edwards and U.S. Rep. Tom Reed for their significant support for repowering Dunkirk. All these people have been tireless supporters of the project from the moment we announced it. Without Sen. Young's truly remarkable leadership, Monday's forum during which your voices were heard would not have been possible.
Nearly 2,500 filled the Williams Center last week.
Much was said at the hearing about the importance of the Dunkirk repowering to Dunkirk and Chautauqua County. Dunkirk will also provide an important, locally sourced and locally regulated resource that will benefit the New York state economy and the long-term reliability of New York's electricity system. We believe that the right course is to keep these benefits in New York.
Again, on behalf of the people of NRG, we thank you for your long-lasting partnership with us, and we look forward to making the Dunkirk repowering a reality. We're ready to get to work.
