Susan Baldwin of the town of Villenova is announcing her candidacy for the Chautauqua County Legislature representing District 5, which includes the towns of Arkwright, Cherry Creek, Sheridan, Villenova and part of the town of Pomfret. She will be running in the Democratic primary election on Sept. 10. In submitting her election petition to the Chautauqua County Board of Elections ,Baldwin was able to submit nearly double the number of signatures required. As a hard-working candidate, she collected half of the total signatures that were collected by her supporters.
Baldwin represents the seventh generation of her family in Chautauqua County and while she, nor anyone else in her family, has sought public office, Baldwin feels that now is the time to get involved to try to make a difference. As a political newcomer, over the last two years she has attended most of the county legislature meetings to express her opinion on issues where she has knowledge and expertise to the county legislature. Because of this involvement, Baldwin recognizes the amount of time required to become informed on the many issues that come before legislators. Recently retired as a nurse, she worked at the Chautauqua County Home for over 33 years. Baldwin feels that in her retirement, she has the time and the ability to devote to the position so that she can make educated and responsible decisions for all county residents.
Baldwin is a steadfast supporter of the Chautauqua County Home and supports its retention and its responsible operation for those seniors who require skilled nursing care. She supports reduction of excessive government overheads. As a small business owner for over 20 years, she recognizes the need for smart business decisions. Baldwin is a strong supporter and advocate for the promotion of local small business and agriculture. She understands the importance of farming, having been raised on a farm in Sinclairville, where she was no stranger to hard work. Baldwin has a burning compassion for the people in this county and wants to give back to serve and to help bring pride and prosperity back to Chautauqua County.
