SOUTH DAYTON - There will be a new principal in the Pine Valley School District. The Board of Education accepted the high school principal's resignation at a recent board meeting.
The Board of Education accepted with regret the resignation of High School Principal Cathy Fabiatos. She resigned to take a superintendent position at another school district.
Superintendent Pete Morgante said the district has received several applications for the open position and the board will interview them, along with Morgante, a student committee and a parent committee. The board will host a special meeting on July 31 to go into executive session to interview candidates. The board will then appoint a principal at another special meeting on Aug. 2.

Morgante also gave Regents results for high schoolers during the meeting. Some students did not perform as well on Regents exams as in past years, which Morgante attributed to grading. Pine Valley teachers were not allowed to grade their own tests this year and other teachers from neighboring districts graded the exams. Teachers were not allowed to proctor their own exams either. The English 11 Regents also had a new scoring rubric, resulting in lower test grades.
The board also held its annual reorganizational meeting, where Janie Waag was re-elected president and Jeff Chase was re-elected vice president of the board of education. Jo Ann Anderson, Larry Zollinger and student representative Adam Lukasik were given the oath of office as being newly elected board members. The board also approved Mark Chase as JV girls basketball coach, John Kennison as assistant football coach and approved H&K Services for a total of $458,000 for facilities improvements as part of the capital improvement project.
The next regular board meeting will be held on Aug. 22.
