A 2.6 diesel truck hauls deadweight in final event at the Pro Farm Tractor Pull.
Tractors hauled a deadwight across the track as black smoke fills the air.
Despite the fact that rain clouds moved in and fell on the crowd constantly, a vast number in the crowd were not deterred as they stayed to watch the powerful tractors carry deadweight as far as 303 feet. The event consisted of three competing classes: Heavy pro-form, superstock and 2.6 diesel trucks. Before hooking up to the deadweight, the tractors went through an inspection and were weighed to make sure they met standards.
"I have been involved with tractor pulls for years and years," a Chautauqua County Fair Director Dave Wilson said. "My brother and I used to take part in tractor pulls at Hanover Center. Tractor pulls are a lot of fun, and it is something I love. The tractors here tonight are very strong."
Tractors that participated in the first two events were of many makes, including John Deere, Oliver 88 and International, amongst others. Dodge was the dominant truck in the 2.6 diesel class. Tractors and 2.6 diesel trucks pulled a scraper truck from Larry Romance and Son.
The final event gave the crowd a thrill as a 2.6 diesel truck hauled deadweight all the way down the track. Winner of the event was "Getcha Sum," driven by Josh Henderson with a pull of 303.3 feet.
Conditions on the track changed throughout the duration of the event with the entrance of rain. As a result, the track became tighter and made it a little bit more difficult for drivers.
Commenting on the evening's events, Wilson said, "The crowd turnout was very good despite the threat for rain. Tomorrow's demolition derby will be a great ending to the events here at the fair."
The WNY Pro Farm Tractor Pull circuit series continues tomorrow at 1 p.m. in East Concord.
