A book entitled "Through The Eyes Of A Panther: The History of Gowanda Football" is scheduled to be released in late November. A local club will host the unveiling and the public will be invited to purchase a book plus view the various football artifacts that will be on display. Proceeds from the book will be donated to local sports related groups.
The book will take readers back to the 1961 Gowanda High School football season where the Panthers won a share of consecutive Southwestern Conference Championships. Stories on each individual season leading up through the Panthers first ever appearance in Rich Stadium in 1992 will be the main focus of book. However, area youth football and sandlot leagues have also been researched and will have several interesting stories surrounding their local history during that 31 year time period.
Several former Gowanda athletes and coaches have been interviewed over the past five years that will give the readers an alternative view of what went on between the lines. Many of the stories in the book are quite humorous while others will recreate some of the finest moments in Gowanda football from 1961 through 1992. Photos with captions will also add to the local history on the gridiron.
After the initial unveiling locally, books will be available to be purchased and sent to out of town friends and family members.
