Dennis G. Clemens, Sr., 69, of Fredonia, died Thursday (Aug. 1, 2013), at Buffalo VA Hospital.
He was born May 26, 1944 in Hamburg, the son of the late Edward and Virginia (Gostomski) Clemens.
Mr. Clemens served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Duxbury Bay during the Vietnam War.
A mechanic and proprietor of several businesses, Mr. Clemens had been the owner of Clemens Sales in Fredonia, the former Clem's Place in Dunkirk and co-owner of C&N Garage in Brocton.
He was a member of the American Legion John W. Dill Post No. 434 in Brocton.
He was the 1980 State and World Demolition Derby champion.
Dennis enjoyed bowling, fishing, NASCAR races, demolition driving and moose hunting in Quebec, Canada.
He also liked shooting pool and had played for the Puerto Rican Social Club, Clem's Place, and JJ Corral pool teams.
Dennis especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Betty J. (Sobilo) Clemens; two daughters, Lisa (Phil) Clemens-Latona of Madison, Wisconsin and Samantha (Randy) DeJohn of Fredonia; two sons, Dennis Clemens, Jr. and Wayne (Karen) Clemens, both of Fredonia; three brothers, Edward (Diane) Clemens, James (Dottie) Clemens and David (Jennie) Clemens; four sisters, Janet (Ted) Linhart, Patricia Lundgren, Audrey Clemens and Karen Clemens; seven grandchildren, Josh Latona, Ashley Nicole DeJohn, Vanessa Jade Latona, Destiny Clemens, Justin Clemens, Dylan Clemens and Charlyrae Clemens; three great grandchildren, Lilie Marie, Damianjames, and Dominicjames; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10 o' clock in St. Joseph Church in Fredonia (Please use side entrance). Burial will be in Webster Road Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Flowers gratefully declined.
