John Marshall Jefferson Sr., 55, of Morrison, Tenn., formerly of Dunkirk, died suddenly Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Riverpark Hospital in McMinnville, Tenn.
He was born Oct. 7, 1957, the son of the late Frank Marshall and Betty (Brooks) Jefferson
A graduate of Dunkirk Senior High School, Class of 1975, John was a letterman on the 1974 (8-1) DHS football team as well as manager on many basketball teams.
He started his 20 plus years of meatcutting at Valones Market and on to Quality Markets in Silver Creek and Dunkirk (D&F Plaza). In 1996, John moved to Morrison, Tenn., and was meat manager at Walmart in McMinville. He had been employed at Bridgestone Mftg. facility for 15 years at the time of his death.
John was also a former board member of First Assembly of God church in Fredonia NY.
He is survived by his wife Amelia Deering Jefferson of 34 years; seven children, John Jr. (Rachel) Frank (Desi), Matt (Dottie), Laurie Jefferson Condra, (Kyle) Dan, William (Erin) and Marshall, all of Tennessee; and 8 grandchildren. A brother, James Jefferson (Kim) of Dunkirk, also survives.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 in McMinnville, Tenn., and he was laid to rest in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Viola, Tenn.
John enjoyed his family, friends, faith, hunting, sports and expecially his Bills and Sabres. His gentle disposition and compassionate heart made him a pillar in the community. He will be sadly missed by all. Memorials may be made to the family at The Jefferson's 131 First St. Morrison, TN 37357.
