Alice M. Sam’s

One-Day-At-A-Time. That was Major Alice M. Sam's motto, as she shared her unconditional love. Re-tired U.S. Air Force Nurses Corps, Major Alice M. Sam, age 81, departed Saturday, August 3, 2013. She was a woman of strong values and deeply humbled throughout her life journey. Born in 1932, during the Depres-sion to Esau and Annise Sam in Irwin, Pa. Youngest daughter and sister to Susan S. Sam and the late Adele R. Sam.Major Alice M. Sam, a graduate nurse, received special training in the aero medical evacuation. She was decorated for meritoriuos service for her air evacuation duty at Yokota Air Base, Japan. Her tours of duty included Okinawa, Vietnam, Korea and the Ohio USAF Clinic at Grisson, Indiana, where she served as Chairperson of NursingServices. She was a member of the Air Force Association, Aerospace Med. Association. She also was the recipient of the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal and other honors. In 1995, the Major Alice M. Sam Biology Scholarship with SUNY Fredonia, was established by her late Sister, Adele R. Sam.Major Alice M. Sam "Aunt Alice" as the community knew her, relocated to Fredonia, NY, where she could be close to her family.Major Alice M. Sam will be deeply missed by her sister, Susan S. Sam; brother-in-law Esau A. Sam; cousin, The Rev. Helen Sam; nieces, Barbara A. Sam and Grace M. Sam; nephews, Charles E. Sam and Robert E. Sam; great nephews, Alex E. Sam and Jacob E. Sam; great great nephew, Blake Matthew Sam; and her many dear friends and Samson, her cat.The family will greet friends Wednesday from 2 to 3 at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 14 West Fourth Street, Dunkirk, NY where a celebration of the life of Major Alice M. Sam will follow at 3 p.m. An interment with full Military Honors at Forest Hill Cemetery will follow the service. Family and friends are invited after Mass to the family homestead at 4869 West Lake Road, Dunkirk.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lak-eshore Humane Society, 431 East Chestnut St., Dunkirk, NY 14048 or the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701.Arrangements by David J.
