Sunset Bay Fire Auxiliary breakfast fundraiser Sunday
The Sunset Bay Fire Auxiliary will hold its final fundraiser of 2013 on Sunday at the Sunset Fire Hall. This event is a community breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon. Menu items include pancakes, eggs, sausage, fruit and more. The donation per person is $5. All are welcome.
United Senior Citizens' annual indoor picnic Monday at noon
The United Senior Citi-zens' annual indoor picnic will be held at noon Mon-day at the Fredonia Beaver Club. The menu will include Italian sausage, hot dogs, rolls, potato salad, baked beans, tossed salad and watermelon. The cost is $5 for paid members, $10 for non-members.

Chautauqua County Historical Society to host program on local POW camps in WWII
The Chautauqua County Historical Society will host a program on Prisoner of War camps located in the county during World War II. Dunkirk High School teacher Ryan Corbett will deliver the presentation at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the J.W. Dill Post 434 of the Ameri-can Legion in Brocton.
Corbett will discuss the POW camps, why they were here and the daily life of a German or Italian prisoner. He will show a video documentary that he and his students produced, featuring interviews and first-hand accounts of local residents who remember the time when the camps were in operation. The event is free.

Sheridan Historical Society program scheduled Monday
Monday at 7 p.m., the Sheridan Historical Society will host a special program on antique milk bottles by Alberta Oonk of Clymer. An avid collector, Oonk is the author of "Milk Bottles of Chautauqua County and Their Stories." She recently presented for the County Historical Society.
The talk will be held on the first floor of the former Sheridan Town Hall, corner of U.S. Route 20 and Center Road in Sheridan. Refresh-ments will also be served.
Hunter safety class
at Westfield Fish and Game Club Monday
The Westfield Fish and Game Club on Ogden Road is conducting a gun safety class Monday from 7 to 10 p.m. The class will resume Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students must attend both days and be at least 12 years of age. For more information, call 326-3218.
Festival of Grapes Pentathlon searching for contestants
The Festival of Grapes Pentathlon will be held Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. in the Silver Creek School parking lot. The rain date for the event will be Sept. 17.
Boys who are ages 7-8 before the event takes place and reside in the Grape Belt region, which encompasses all of Chautauqua County and as far as Eden in southern Erie County, may participate in the event.
The boys have fun testing their skills in sports-related activities as part of the competition and are judged based on their abilities, skills and sportsmanship.
The winning prince and runners up will be announced at the Festival of Grapes opening ceremony Sept. 19 and will be able to stomp grapes and participate in the Sunday Parade.

Hometown author John McGlarry invites public to 'The Leaving' release party in Buffalo
The Dog Ears Bookstore at 688 Abbott Road in South Buffalo, in conjunction with No Frills Publisher Buffalo, is pleased to present the first novel of local author John McGlarry, titled "The Leaving."
McGlarry is a graduate of SUNY Fredonia, with many friends and fans still in the area.
The release party of this historical, romantic, fictional novel will be Friday at 7 p.m. at the bookstore.
Guests will meet McGlarry along with the publisher, Mark Pogodzinski; and Tom McDonald, president of The Dog Ears Bookstore. There will also be Irish soda bread.

Breast Cancer Support Group to hold summer picnic today
The Dunkirk-Fredonia Breast Cancer Support Group will meet at the home of Tina Butryn in Dunkirk at 6 p.m. today for the annual summer picnic. Members are asked to bring a dish to pass.

The town of Pomfret's Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the town hall in regard to an area variance and a special use permit for a storage shed at a property on Bear Lake Road.
Railroad construction closes Angola street
Construction on the CSX railroad tracks closed Main Street in Angola Tuesday. According to the Angola Village Clerks Office, the closure will last one week.
