Over 50 CIAO members and guests attended the annual picnic and meeting on July 27 at Russell Joy Park. Upon arrival, members were given a ticket for door prizes and card with upcoming events. Introduction of Board Members and a brief meeting preceded the wonderful bounty of food provided by members.
Several trips were discussed. One was a short trip to St. Anthony of Padua Church in Buffalo to attend the Italian Mass and to visit the newly formed Italian Museum. Masses are held during the week and Saturday at 3:30 and 5 p.m. and on Sunday 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tours of the museum can be arranged in small groups. The church also has four concerts a year. Those interested may contact Sam Crisanti at 934-2592.
Giulio Mannino suggested a trip to Toronto or to the north end of Boston, where many Italians live. The north end of Boston boasts some of the best restaurants in Boston. Both cities would be great places to visit. Rosemary Piede volunteered to chair the trip committee. More information will follow.
The Tomato Festival at Niagara Falls, Ontario is slated for Aug. 25. This event is sponsored by The Italian Club 2525 Montrose Road, Niagara Falls, Ontario. A passport or enhanced license is required to cross the border to Canada. No reservations are required to attend.
The next activity will be held on Columbus Day, Oct. 14, at St. Joseph's Church at 6 p.m. Come share the bounty from the garden with a dish to pass. Write the date on the calendar and enjoy an evening with friends, food and fun.
