It is something you hear regularly from the many boosters of this region: There is nothing more important than investing your dollars into the local businesses and economy.
For the fourth year, the OBSERVER is showcasing its "I Shop Local" program, which includes nearly 30 area businesses. Our list of participants so far this year is on Page A10.
Different from the past, this year all readers need to do is pick up a card at one of the participating businesses, fill it out and drop it off or mail it to our offices at 8-10 E. Second St., Dunkirk, NY 14048.
Each week - for eight weeks, a drawing will be held with the winners announced in the OBSERVER. There will be four weekly winners of $25 gift certificates to one of the participating businesses. At the end of eight weeks, there will be four grand prize drawings of $50 certificates to participating businesses.
"There is no better way to support local business than by shopping in our back yard," said Meredith Patton, OBSERVER advertising director.
There is still time for other businesses to participate. For more information, call 366-3000, ext. 420.
Besides, when residents shop local, everyone is a winner.
