Fredonia native Jenn Suhr has been named as a finalist for the Women's Sports Foundation's Sportswoman of the Year Award.
Winners will be announced at the 34rd Annual Salute to Women in Sports Gala on Oct. 16, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
Athletes were considered for the 2013 Sportswoman of the Year Award based on their athletic achievements between Aug. 13, 2012, and July 31, 2013.
During that time,?Suhr won the pole vault event at the Boston New Balance Grand Prix (February, 2013), won the pole vault event at the 2013 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships with a World Indoor Record vault of 5.02m/16-5.5 (March), won the pole vault event at the Adidas Grand Prix (May), won the pole vault event at the United States Outdoor Track & Field Championships (June) and placed second in the pole vault event at the IAAF Diamond League Sainsbury Anniversary Games (July).
The Women's Sports Foundation's Sportswoman of the Year Award winner is determined by the Women's Sports Foundation's Awards Committee and the public.
Other nominees for the award include Japan's Mao Asada (Figure Skating), U.S.A.'s, Kelly Clark (Snowboarding), Missy Franklin (Swimming), Tatyana McFadden (Paralympic Track & Field), Serena Williams (Tennis), Slovenia's Tina Maze (Alpine Skiing) and Korea's Inbee Park (Golf).
