The Dunkirk Senior Center and the Chautauqua County Office for the Aging are co-chairing a Health Fair at the Dunkirk Senior Center, 45 Cliffstar Court, in Dunkirk. The event is being held on Sept 19 from noon to 4 p.m. to give older adults an opportunity to learn more about the many wonderful resources that are available in the community. There will be free refreshments, raffles and prizes. If seniors have not yet been to the Dunkirk Senior Center that alone is worth the trip. The Dunkirk Senior Center offers daily exercise classes, bingo, day trips and more.
The Visiting Nurse Association of Western New York will offer flu and pneumonia shots at the event. The VNA is the only local not-for-profit agency whose proceeds from vaccinations stay here in Western New York to provide charity home care. The flu shots are administered by registered nurses and available for ages 9 and up for flu shots and age 19 and over for the pneumonia vaccine. For flu shots, the following insurance is accepted: Medicare Part B, Independent Health, Univera and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Depending on the insurance plan, a co-pay may be requested by the insurance carrier. Pneumonia vaccines are not routinely covered so it is best to contact your insurance carrier before getting the vaccine. For those not covered by insurance, cash or checks will be accepted. The cost is $30 for a flu shot and $80 for a pneumonia shot.
