The Women Who Golf For Fun - Coming in first place was Bobbi Deering, second was Pat Daniel and third went to Sandi Gloss. Deering was named golfer of the week. Awards for special games played to end the season were given at a banquet held at Shorewood. Least putts went to Pat Kaus with 15. In a second place tie with 17 were Priscilla Penfold, Joyce Cullen and Linda Hodorowicz. Most putts, 24, went to Dodo Dudek. Longest putt on No. 3 went to Kaus, nearest to tree on No. 7 was Carole Hudson and second best shot on No. 9 went to Gloss. Pat Kaus and Pat Daniel were named golfers of the season. Although this ends the season for the women, those interested in continuing golfing can meet at the course on Wednesday teeing off at 10 a.m.
The women will begin their 2014 season on May 7 meeting at 9 a.m. and teeing off at 9:30. Please note time change. Monthly lunches will continue on the last Wednesday of the month. Notices will appear in the OBSERVER.
Wednesday Travel League - Kevin Kaszuba shot an even-par 72 at Crab Apple Ridge in Waterford, PA, matching the league course record held by Rick Manning Sr. Kaszuba's round included a 2-under par 34 on the front nine. Al Etzel finished second with 74. Also breaking 80 were Ed Tofil (76), Gary Richardson (78) and Kerry Murphy (79). Murphy became the first player in league history to post 40 career rounds below 80. Other flight winners were Paul Olkowski (B), Len Leszkowicz (C) and Bob Stone (D-on a tiebreaker over Doug Newman). Winner of the Commissioner's Award was league commissioner Bruce Chrabasz.
Untied birdies were recorded by, A Flight: Joe Michalski (No. 2), Jeff Kubera (No. 3), Etzel (No. 6), Kevin Kaszuba (No. 9), Richardson (No. 10), Tofil (No. 11), Murphy (No. 15) and Bill Aldrich (No. 16-Eagle on the par 4 hole); B Flight: Olkowski (No. 4), Mick Dunning Sr. (No. 9), Wayne Ormsby (No. 15), and Ken Kaus (No. 16); C Flight: Frank Benamati (No. 2), Angelo Leone (No. 5), John Waterman (No. 8) and Leszkowicz (No. 16); D Flight: Jack Hood (Nos. 4&16), Newman (No. 6), Lee Titus (Nos. 7&18) and Dan Kaszuba (Nos. 10,12,&14).
Closest to the pin were Etzel (No. 2), Tofil (No. 8), Leszkowicz (No. 11) and Titus (No. 15). Top point winners were Tofil (56), Murphy, Michalski and Benamati (37 each) and Titus (33). Season points leaders: Dave Franklin (325), Michalski (315), Richardson (295), Tofil (294) and Dave Criscione (251).
Next week the league travels to Concord Crest Golf Course in East Concord, NY for the first time. There is a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Golfers are asked to be at the course no later than 9:00. Golfers also must be signed up with Butch Mackowiak (679-4027) by Monday.
Pinehurst Golf Course
Brocton American Legion Post 434 Wednesday Evening Men's League - Low Gross went to Pat Swanson (35), followed by Gary Arnold (38), Dave Willebrandt (38), Andy Deakin (39), Jared Ehmke (39) and Jon Coe (40). Low Net was John chabuel (31) followed by Brando Presto (31), Swanson (32), Arnold (33), Dave Daniels (33), Deakin (33) and Coe (33). Closest to the pin on the par 3's were Jay Beers on No. 4 and Deakin on No. 7. Closest to the 150 yard marker on No. 2 was John Feiner. Skins were won by Swanson, Willebrandt, Kris Kane and Deakin.
Most team points taken were Jon Coe and Jeff Gerould (15), Ralph Archer & John Chabuel (13) and Willebrandt and Swanson (12.5).
Fredonia Midget League Football
The Fredonia Midget League football games scheduled for this Saturday, against Jamestown Southside have been moved from the Orange Bowl, due to poor field conditions after heavy rain this week.
Games will be played in the field area inside the Fredonia High School track, behind the school building. There will be no parking allowed on the grass area near the track, and spectators are asked to use the high school or elementary school parking lots.
Game times have also been changed. Midget League junior varsity will play at 12:30 p.m., varsity will play at 2 p.m., and modified will play at 4 p.m.
