IRVING - On Saturday, Sept. 21, Western New York will hear the rumble of hundreds of motorcycles, as motorcyclists gather in support for the JC Seneca Foundation "Motorcycle Run for Dialysis".
This fundraiser's purpose is to purchase a new medical transport van.
The Seneca Nation Health System's Health, Outreach, Prevention, Education (HOPE) Unit provides outreach and transportation services for patients.
This van is designated to provide transportation to dialysis treatment specifically for our patients at the Lionel R. John Health Center, located on the Allegany territory in Cattaraugus County.
"Transportation to dialysis and other medical appointments is a vital component of the HOPE Unit," said Denise Mohawk, HOPE Unit coordinator. "The need for safe, reliable vehicles is of utmost importance for our transportation program. We are extremely happy to be the recipient of such a thoughtful and generous gift from the JC Seneca Foundation."
Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Native Pride travel plaza at 11359 Southwestern Blvd., on the Seneca Nation's Cattaraugus Territory.
Kick-stands will go up at 10:30 a.m.
Riders will arrive about 1 p.m. at the Armor Inn, located at 5381 Abbott Road in Hamburg for live entertainment by the Papy John's Blues Band, food, and door prizes.
This is a free event, but all donations are accepted. Raffle tickets for $5 are available with the chance to win a grand prize of $1000, 1st place prize of $500 and a 2nd place prize of $250.
Riding a motorcycle in the charity event is not required; all are welcome to participate in the morning at Native Pride and to meet all the motorcyclists starting at noon at the Armor Inn Tap Room.
"The role of providing transportation is too often overlooked in its direct, positive impact on the quality of life for our patients. Consequently, we are truly delighted to accept the gift of this van which will enable our patients at Lionel R. John to receive dialysis treatment," said SNHS Chief Executive Officer Alan Barlow. "On behalf of the Seneca Nation Health System, I express appreciation to the JC Seneca Foundation for supporting our mission which is to enhance the overall health of the Native American communities we serve by providing a comprehensive range of health services that address the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of each individual."
President/Owner JC Seneca states, "I am thrilled to lead this movement to help improve health care for the Seneca Nation's dialysis patients. This is just the first of many projects in the work for our foundation to continue to advance healthy living in our area."
The JC Seneca Foundation is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to advance healthy living in mind, body, and spirit for the people of the Seneca Nation and surrounding communities.
