BUFFALO - Associated Builders and Contractors presented Congressman Tom Reed of the 23rd District its Champion of the Merit Shop award on Aug. 23. This commendation is given to members of Congress who have a 70 percent or better voting record on the association's priority issues in the 112th Congress.
"It is an honor to recognize Congressman Tom Reed for an outstanding voting record on issues we feel to be the most significant to the commercial and industrial construction industry," said 2013 ABC National Chairman Greg Hoberock. "This award gives us an opportunity to acknowledge lawmakers who consistently support the merit shop philosophy."
"I am proud to receive the 'Champion of the Merit Shop' award from the Associated Builders and Contractors, an organization working hard every day to advance the construction industry," Reed said. "Our voting record in Congress will continue to reflect a strong support of policies that encourage job creation and promote economic growth. Thank you to ABC for the organization's efforts toward that end."
Following the presentation of the Champion of the Merit Shop award, Reed toured several local merit shop facilities with ABC members from both the Buffalo and Rochester region. Facility tours were conducted at Duggan and Duggan General Contractors in Allegany as well as Mazza Sheet Metal and Pierce Steel Fabricators in Olean.
Champion of the Merit Shop award recipients reflect ABC's commitment to open competition and free enterprise. ABC tracks the voting records of all legislators on select legislation as indicative of their support for, or opposition to, issues that are critical to the merit shop construction industry.
