James W. Taylor, 76, of Dunkirk and Largo, Fla., died Thursday morning (Sept. 26, 2013) at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., from complications due to heart surgery.
He was born Jan. 28, 1937 in North East, Pa., the son of the late Walter and Catherine (Ostrye) Taylor.
A Dunkirk resident for most of his life, Mr. Taylor spent the winters in Florida in his later years.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959.
He had been employed as a traffic manager at Dunkirk Radiator for 35 years.
Mr. Taylor was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and a lifetime member and trustee of the Dunkirk Elks Lodge 922.
A man of faith and a great friend to many, he en-joyed playing golf and shuffleboard, and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.
Survivors include three sons, Tim (Cathy) Taylor of Mt. Airy, Md., and their children, Lauren, Jill, Joey and Mark; Mike (Helene) Taylor, also of Mt. Airy, and their children, James, Grant, Olivia and Claudia; and Scott (Melody) Taylor of Lakeview, NY, and their children Matthew, Jeffrey and Benjamin; one daughter, Lisa (Kevin) Phelps of New Market, Md., and their children, Nathan and Ryan.
Also survived by three sisters, Virginia (Joseph) Saden of Crossville, Tenn., Ellen (Sam) Fote of Dunkirk and Carol (Jim) Vande Velde of Ocala, Fla.; one brother, Tom (Patricia) Taylor of Dunkirk; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Mary Lou Taylor.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Monday morning at 10 o'clock in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Entombment will be in the Holy Cross Columbarium of St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of one's choice.
